Water Party Ideas

Water Party ideas for some wet and wild party fun.

Games and crafts involving water.

You can host your party poolside, inside or just put out a sprinkler in the yard.

Summer birthday parties need some way to cool off and these water birthday party games are just the thing!

One of the best things of an outdoor water summer party is that the decorations and water games are so simple!

Games and Activities
Water Fight! (ages 3-16)
My favorite way to do this water party game is to fill buckets with water at various places in the yard and toss in a bunch of large soft sponges and let the guests throw them around at each other. We always call a truce when the hose is brought out to fill up the buckets.

Beach Ball Soccer (ages 3-16)
Play a simplified version of soccer with a beach ball instead of a soccer ball. That ball will move around in crazy and fun ways.

Flip Flop Jungle (ages 3-16)
Give everyone a flip flop sandal and have them find the matching flip flop from a jumbled pile of flip flops.

Water Obstacle Course (ages 3-16)
Make an obstacle course through the back yard with a sprinkler going. Go over a wheel barrow, under lounge chairs, around a tree, through a shallow swimming pool and ride a tricycle a short distance. You can also string a rope along the path of the obstacle course and send the guests through it blindfolded.

Water Slide (ages 4-16)
You can purchase a simple water slide (preferred) or try to transform a heavy duty sheet of plastic into a water slide with duct tape reinforced corners for tent pegs to go through and hold it in place.

Trampoline Games (ages 5-16)
Everyone with a trampoline knows a few games. Let everyone share their favorites and play with a sprinkler spraying from under the trampoline.

Water Balloon Volleyball (ages 8-16)
Fill up many water balloons and keep them in a basket lined with a towel. Then, split the guests into teams and have each team pair off in twos. Each set of guests holds a towel between them to be used for catching and tossing water balloons. Then, use a water balloon instead of a volleyball and have fun! Simplified rules of the volleyball game should be used in this water party game.

Crafts
Wall Surboards (ages 3-10)
Cut surfboard shapes from poster board for your guests to decorate with markers and stickers.

Leis (ages 3-16)
For younger guests make leis by colored macaroni noodles and paper cut in flower shapes strung on yarn. For older guests make leis from silk flowers strung on thread with needles. This file has some flowers you can cut out and use.

Water Art (ages 5-16)
This is a short lived water party craft, but fun. Give each guest a water bottle and have them use it to “draw” a picture on cement. You can add a package of punch mix (no sugar) to make it colored if you want.

Tie-Dyed Shirts (ages 7-16)
Purchase a kit for making tie-dyed shirts and follow the instructions. Be sure to wash cotton t-shirts before tie-dying to get any shrink out of them.

Refreshments

Serve foods at your water party that are simple and don’t require utensils, and sometimes don’t need plates. Something you can eat while wrapped up in a towel. Try something like crackers, brownie bites, and a fruit or veggie tray.

Snow Cones – Shaved ice and snow cone syrup. You can purchase snow cone syrup or make your own with one cup of water, one cup of sugar and one package of punch mix, boiled for a minute and then cooled.

Hot Dog Roast – I prefer to cook hot dogs before roasting them over an open flame so I can be certain they’re really cooked.
