Invitations
(Seasonal request for their presence)
Cut out a sunflower. The center of the flower says “You’re
invited to a Sunny Party”. Each petal has information about the
party—the date,
time, location and R.S.V.P. number.
Decorations (Fun
in the sun or cool in the shade)
Summer parties are bright, so decorate with
bright
colors—green and yellow with a touch of orange or pink or blue.
Make tissue paper
flowers. Fold 3 pieces of
tissue paper accordion style. Wrap the center of the folded tissues
with a pipe cleaner. Then unfold and fluff out the pieces of tissue
paper so that it resembles a flower. Place 3-4 flowers together as a
centerpiece.
Turn a hanging lamp into
a sun by stretching yellow and
orange streamers outward from the light. Do not actually have the
streamers
touching the light bulb because that is a fire hazard.
Cakes
(Confections for a summer party)
Flip
Flop Sandal Cupcake Cake
Cut gumdrops in
half and
use to create flowers on cupcakes.
Decorate a round
cake as
a smiling sun.
Cut up chocolate
cake
into bite size pieces and mix it with
chocolate cookie crumbs and chocolate whipped cream and serve it in a
new (and
clean) beach pail.
Costumes/Dress
up (Kick it back to cool)
Grass skirts and leis
Hawaiian shirt
Sunglasses
Games
and Activities (And you'll
have fun, fun, fun...)
Big Bubbles (ages 3-16)
Make bubble wands from
new fly swatters or cookie cutters.
Or, twist a circle out of pipe cleaner to make a bubble wand. Make your
own
bubble solution by combining: ½
cup dishwashing
liquid, 4 ½ cups water and 4 tablespoons glycerine. Stir gently. Then,
fill the air with bubbles.
Flip Flop Jungle (ages
3-16)
Give everyone a flip flop
sandal and have them find the matching
flip flop from a jumbled pile of flip flops.
Water Fight (ages 3-16)
Place 5 gallon buckets
filled with water at strategic spots
in the yard—within reach of the garden hose. Throw sponges at each
other and
take a break when the buckets need to be filled with more water.
This can be a perfect activity to cool down at the end of your summer
party.
Obstacle Course (ages
3-16)
Make an obstacle course
through the back yard with a sprinkler
going. Go over a wheel barrow, under lounge chairs, around a tree,
through a
shallow swimming pool and ride a tricycle a short distance. You can
also string
a rope along the path of the obstacle course and send the guests
through it blindfolded.
Water
Balloon Toss (ages
4-16)
Fill a lot of water
balloons and have them ready in baskets.
Line the baskets with a towel so the balloons won’t break open from any
rough
spots in
the baskets. Pair everyone up and have them stand a couple feet away
from their
partner and toss a water balloon back and forth. Then take a step
backward each
time they get the balloon, before they toss it again. Which team can
get the
greatest distance between them?
Ball Kick (ages 5-16)
Using a beach ball, see
who can kick it the highest or the
farthest.
Crabwalk Relay Race (ages
6-16)
Have everyone walk like a
crab, get down on their backs and
then push up on their hands and walk on their legs and hands a short
distance in this manner.
Summer Nights (ages 10-16)
Play "Summer Nights" from Grease.
Have the guests split into two groups to sing the different
parts.
Give them time to practice and plan their choreography before
performing the song.
National Park Match (ages
12-16)
Match the national park
with the state it’s located in. Click
