Patriotic Popcorn

patriotic popcorn
You'll love this patriotic popcorn recipe. It's fun, festive and tasty, too.
It's a fantastic treat you can make for snacking before the barbecue or during the fireworks.

It's a great Fourth of July treat or anytime.

To make this popcorn recipe you need to make three batches of popcorn.

One red, one blue and one white.

Use cherry or strawberry flavored Jell-o to make red popcorn.

Use blue Jell-o to make blue popcorn.

Make a batch of clear candy popcorn for the white.

Then mix all three batches together. It's great and it will feed a lot of people!

Fruit Flavored Popcorn

12 cups popped popcorn
½ cup butter
¾ cup sugar
1 pkg.
(3 oz.) fruit-flavored Jello

1 Tbsp. corn syrup
3 Tbsp. water
¼ tsp. baking soda

Grease two cookie sheets with sides and spread popcorn over both. Place baking pans in the oven to warm the popcorn.

Melt the butter in a large, heavy saucepan. Add sugar, Jello, corn syrup, and water. Cook, stirring often, over medium heat until the mixture reaches about 250° F - about 4 minutes after it comes to a boil.

Add baking soda and stir well to combine. Remove popcorn from the oven.

Pour Jello mixture evenly over the popcorn and mix well to coat evenly. Bake the popcorn in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, stirring after 10 minutes. Popcorn may take additional baking time to dry and become crisp, but watch it carefully to prevent burning.

Remove popcorn from baking pans and transfer to wax paper to cool. Break the popcorn up into small clusters.

Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container.

Candy Popcorn

6 cups popped popcorn
¼ cup margarine
½ cup sugar

½ cup corn syrup
1 Tablespoon vanilla flavoring

Place margarine, sugar, corn syrup and vanilla flavoring in saucepan. Place on stove and bring mixture to a boil on medium high heat. Time the boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and pour over popcorn, stir until all popcorn is coated.

Spread popcorn mixture over greased cookie sheets and bake at 250° F for 15 minutes.  Stir once while baking.

Remove from oven. Cool popcorn completely. Keep in airtight container or it will become soggy.

Just imagine a bowl of festive patriotic popcorn in the center of your table, everyone takes a handful as they walk past, munching and laughing and smiling and.... Oh man. Think of all the cavitites. Maybe you should put out a few toothbrushes and floss as well, just in case.
