Party Tips
Parties are
supposed to be fun!
Throw a
successful celebration with these party tips.
Before
the Party:
Give yourself lots of time for preparing
games
for the party and decorating. You don’t want to start decorating one
hour before the party only to realize you’re out of tape or that you
really needed 3 hours to decorate.
|
|
- Plan extra activities for time fillers in
case
another activity doesn’t take as long as anticipated. Check this link
for some basic games and activity ideas.
- Have all the supplies for games and
activities
close at hand so you can move smoothly from one activity to another.
- Clean your bathroom before the party
because at
least one guest will need to use it.
- Before the party invite one adult to
attend and
take pictures with your camera or use your camcorder so you will have a
recorded memory of the party.
|
- Once you’ve planned your party stop
worrying!
Whatever you do will be enough. There will be enough games,
refreshments, activities and prizes. You don’t have to spend more money
and more time and more energy to make it better if you don’t have the
money, time or energy.
- You don’t have to do everything for every
party. There is always more that can be done. It’s not “settling” when
you realize you’ve done enough.
At the Party:
- Remember
to have fun—that’s the goal of every party. There doesn’t always have
to be a winner.
- Young children have short attention spans
and
it’s generally best to keep activities short, and have lots of them.
- If the party is for young children have goody
bag or prizes for every guest who attends.
- At a birthday party open presents last and have
goody bags ready for the guests at that time—even the birthday kid gets
a goody bag.
- If a child doesn’t want to share it’s okay. Put
away the item in dispute until the party is over so that no one gets
it.
- Never
criticize and thank every guest who attends the party.
- Relax. It’s okay if the guests want to do
things differently than you planned. The party is for the guests more
than the host.
- Be mindful of food allergies and other special
needs guests may have and try to make accommodations. But don’t stress
about things you have no control over. The guests are supposed to take
charge of their conditions and their needs.
- If a guest doesn’t want to participate it
ok—don’t force them. Provide an alternate activity or allow them to
just
watch.
- Take
lots of pictures of smiles and tears so you can laugh about all of them
for years to come.
