You could also
print up the invitation on parchment paper
and roll it up and put it in a bottle. Don’t stuff the mermaid party
invitation
in all the way or your guests will have to break the bottle to get it
out.
Cakes I admit it. I have
no ideas for this. But a quick search on
the internet will give you tons of ideas like how to turn a doll cake
into a
mermaid. That’s my favorite of what I’ve seen.
Decorations Colors: turquoise,
sea green, yellow and pink
Sand and seashells
in a glass vase
Decorate undersea
life on the wall—fish, coral, etc.
Costumes/Dress
Up Turn an umbrella
into jellyfish by dangling crepe paper
streamers around the edges of the umbrella. Use coordinating colors
like light
pink, dark pink and purple or light blue, dark blue and purple. You can
even
have all your guests dance as a school of jellyfish at your Mermaid
party.
Games
and Activities Go
Fishing (ages
3-8) Stretch a sheet or
plastic table cover across a corner and
let your guests go fishing with pole made from a dowel rod, a
clothespin
dangling from the string. Have someone hiding behind the sheet clip a
small
prize to for each guest as they put their fishing pole behind the
sheet.
Find
the Sunken Treasure
(ages 3-10) Scatter doubloons
throughout the play area. Use gold colored
plastic doubloons or yellow paper cut in circles. Be sure some are
hidden. Let
your guests collect as many as they can. Some doubloons can be marked
to
provide the guest with special prizes.
Find
the Peal
(ages 3-16) Place three cups
that look the same upside down and hide a
pearl, or marble, under one of the cups. Switch the cup around and
around and
have the guests try to figure out which cup has the pearl. You can tape
a picture
of an oyster to the front of three cups, since pearls come from
oysters. Be
sure to let the guests take turns trying to move the cups around to
fool the
guests.
Swim
Relay Races (ages
3-16) Split the guests into teams and
have each member take t urn putting on swim goggles and floaties, then
run
while doing swimming strokes with arms, breast stroke, butterfly, free
style,
doggie paddle, back stroke and side stroke. First team with all members
done
wins.
Blow
Bubbles (ages
4-8) Give each guest a
straw and a small bowl with some bubble
water. You can even use water with a drop of dish soap in it and a drop
of
colored water. Then let your guests blow bubbles in the water. You’ll
either
want to do this outside or lay down some towels before beginning.
Seashells
in a Bottle
(ages 5-16) Put several
seashells in a glass vase or bottle. Have your
guests try to guess how many seashells are in the bottle. The guest
with the
number that is closest wins a prize for this mermaid party game.
Crafts Treasure
Chest
(ages 3-16) Provide each guest
with a small craft box to decorate and
make into their own treasure chest. Decorations can include: gem
stickers, markers,
glitter glue, sequins, old magazine picture for decoupage, etc.
Sea
Sponge Paint (ages
3-16) Squirt a little
acrylic paint on Styrofoam plates and give
each guest a small sea sponge to paint with. You can find sea sponges
in your
craft store and some bath boutiques.
Sand
Sculptures
(ages 3-16) Make sand play dough for your
guests by combining one part sand, one part cornstarch and one part
boiling
water. Mix the ingredients and knead well. Send home this momento of the mermaid party in a ziploc plastic bag.
Seashell Necklace
(ages 5-16) Provide the makings of some
mermaid party jewelry. You’ll need string and seashell beads and
pearlized
beads. Then let your guests design and make their own necklaces. For
real
necklaces you’ll also need clasps.
Sand
Painting
(ages 5-16) On stiff paper like cardstock,
allow your guests to drizzle white glue and sprinkle sand over the top
of
it—one color at a time—to design their own unique sand art.
Sea
Shell Art
(ages 5-16) Use hot glue or
Tacky Glue to attach sand and small sea
shell to old CDs. Make a fun pattern with them. If both sides are
decorated you
can hang them using fishing line. You can even add some small
rhinestones or
pearls to this project.
Seaside Candles (ages 5-16) Provide each guest
with a candle. Fat candles (not tall and
skinny) work best for this craft. Glue seashells and sand around the
sides of
the candles in fun patterns. For the seashells you’ll want something
stronger
than plain white glue—Tacky glue or Terrifically Tacky Tape should work
well,
though.
