Make A Time Capsule

It's simple to make a time capsule with these easy instructions. You just need a container, some memorabilia, and a place to store it.
You can use this for a New Years game or activity, or for anything nostalgic like an end of the school year party.

Use this print out for a sheet of questions to answer about yourself...things you might not remember in another ten years.

What to use as a time capsule:

  • Ziplock bag—remove all air
  • Coffee can with lid—decorate with paper, paint, etc.
  • Metal box
  • Plastic container
  • Shoe Box—put the items in a plastic bag, first

Ideas of things to put in a time capsule:
  • Print out this page and fill it out for a snapshot of what’s happening in your world today
  • Newspaper clippings
  • Photographs
  • Letters or postcards
  • Arts and crafts
  • Confetti
  • Journal entries
  • Write a letter to yourself
  • Ticket stubs
  • Test or other homework from school

What not to put in a time capsule:

  • Food
  • Rubber
  • Wool
  • Wood
  • PVC

Except for the food, you may try to put some of these items in your time capsule as long as they are in a separate bag, that is sealed.

Where to store a time capsule:

  • Under your bed
  • In a closet
  • In a bookcase
  • In a desk drawer
  • In your dresser drawer
