Little Mermaid Party Ideas

Plan an enchanting Little Mermaid party under the sea.

Decorations should include lots of undersea water life—pictures of crabs, seashells, seahorses and tropical fishes.

Use butcher paper to put a large picture of Triton’s castle on the wall with a couple of golden pillars on either side.

Play some Caribbean band music in the background….something with a steel drum in it.

Make a curling ribbon curtain and dangle print outs of characters from the Little Mermaid form some of the ribbons.

Truly an under the sea party atmosphere with these ideas.

Shark Chase – Play a version of tag where most of the guests are mermaids and just a one or two guests are sharks. Put the sharks in the middle of the room with the guests on one side of the room. The mermaids are to run across the room to the other side and anyone that a shark touches, becomes a shark. The mermaids keep running back and forth from side to side until only one mermaid is left. That mermaid is the winner.

Part of Your World – Really, a dinglehopper? Come up with alternate uses and names for every day items. Scuttle said a fork is for brushing hair and a pipe is for playing music. Lay out several every day items and see what creative ideas your guests will have.

Prince Statue – Ariel loved that statue of Prince Eric. Give each of your guests play doh to create their statue of a dream prince. This is Ariel's favorite Little Mermaid party activity.

Swimming Relay – Ariel is undoubtedly an incredible swimmer. Let your guests show off their swimming strokes with a simple swimming relay race. Divide your guests into teams and have each member take turns “swimming” across the room using different swimming strokes. They really run and just move their arms in the appropriate manner. You may want to show them the difference between a butterfly stroke, breast stroke and doggy paddle before beginning this Little Mermaid party game. The first team with each member across wins.

Ursula’s Potion –Make a voice stealing potion like Ursula uses to get Ariel’s voice and turn her into a human for three days. Provide each guest with a cup or bowl and spoon for mixing, and several various ingredients. Some ingredients should be tasty like pretzels, peanuts and chocolate chips. Some can be nasty, like vinegar, ketchup and pickles.

Sebastian’s Escape – Sebastian had a difficult time hiding from the Chef Louis. Hide a small toy crab (or a print out of Sebastian from the internet) somewhere in the room. Give the guests 1 minute to find the crab. If they’re having a difficult time, give a few hints. First guest to find Sebastian wins…and gets to hide him for the next round of the game. If nobody finds Sebastian, then he escapes!
