Games and Activities
Siesta Dance (ages 3-16)
Musical chairs, but siesta style. Put out chairs in a circle, backs together. Use one less chair than you have guests. Play music from a Mariachi band while your guests dance around the chairs. When the music stops they must take a nap in the chairs. The guest who doesn’t get a chair for a nap is out. Then, remove one chair, play some more music, dance, another siesta, etc. Continue until only one guest remain.

Tortilla Toss (ages 3-16)
Give each guest 2-5 corn tortillas and have them toss the tortillas from a specific place to a target on the floor. Toss them Frisbee style. The guest with the most on target wins.

Limbo (ages 3-16)
Everyone takes turns going under a horizontal pole. They can’t touch the pole, and can only touch the ground with their feet, and can’t bend forward to go under the pole, only backward. After everyone has gone under, lower the pole a little and send everyone through again. Keep lowering the pole until only one guest has made it through without touching pole or ground. Be sure to play lively Caribbean music for this fiesta party game.

Confetti Eggs (ages 3-16)
For several weeks before your fiesta party save your egg shells. Gently crack the tops of the eggs with a spoon so ½-¾ of the egg remains intact. Rinse out the egg shell and dry. Decorate the egg shells by turning them upside down and then apply spray paint. Fill each clean and dry egg shell with about 1 Tblsp. confetti and glue a piece of tissue paper across the top of the egg. Give each guest a couple of confetti eggs. (You can make your own confetti by putting squares of tissue paper in a bowl and using scissors to cut, cut, cut them into smaller pieces.) The tradition is a wish for good luck when an egg is smashed on someone’s head. Let the guests smash the eggs on each other’s heads. If your guests have never done this before you may need to provide a demonstration by having an egg smashed on the head of the hostess. They’ll run and chase. If you’re concerned some of the guests might get too rough, have them smash the eggs in their hands above the other’s persons head.

Mariachi Band (ages 3-16)
Help your guests form their own Mariachi band. Provide a guitar, castanets and maracas and play lively at your fiesta party.

Bean Relay Race (ages 5-16)
South of the border is a famous for its beans. Split your guests into two teams and have them race to fill a cup with dry beans. Each team has one tablespoon to move beans from a bucket to their cup across the room. After one team member delivers a scoop of beans he or she must pass on the spoon to the next team member. Each member should take a turn. The first team to fill their cup wins.

Zorro (ages 5-16)
The famous bandit was an incredible swordsman. Give your guests plastic swords or foam swords and let them practice their fencing. A zesty fiesta party activity.

Crafts
Make a Sombrero (ages 3-8)
Turn a paper plate topped with an upside down paper bowl into a sombrero. Glue together then decorate with markers, ribbon, feathers, etc.

Fake Moustaches (ages 3-10)
Cut oversized moustaches from black or brown foam sheets. Let everyone dress up for your fiesta party.

Decorate a Sombrero (ages 3-16)
Provide each guest with a plain sombrero. Decorate them with ribbons and paints and fabric appliqués, feathers and silk flowers.

Make Maracas (ages 3-16)
Make the maracas before the party by putting 10-20 beans in a balloon, inflating a little and tying closed. Then tape to a handle like a toilet paper tube or a popsicle stick. Now the messy party is to paper mache the entire maraca with newspaper and flour paste – one part water to one part flour. Allow it to dry. Then paint white and let dry. At the party let your guests decorate their maracas with paints or markers.

Decorate Own Pinata (ages 3-16)
You can let the guests make their own piñatas at your fiesta party or make the piñatas ahead of time and let the guests decorate their own. The simplest version is to simply decorate a brown paper bag with fringed tissue paper. Or you can try other piñatas found here.

Dried out Art (ages 3-16)
Provide the guests with sturdy paper and glue. Then set out various bean and legumes like split peas, lentils or even some barley. Have several colors and sizes ready. Let the guests make their own designs and pictures. Be sure to write names on the backs of papers before the guests begin their work.

Decorate Margarita Cups (ages 3-16)
Purchase plastic margarita cups from the pasty supply store and decorate with paints or stickers.
