Decorations Color scheme should be red, orange and yellow, and maybe a
little green.
You can use a lot of Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations
for this party—just not the scary Halloween decorations.
Small pumpkins or a bowl of apples make a nice centerpiece.
Bales of hay
Fall leaves
Costumes/Dress up Scarecrow Shirts – flannel with straw or raffia sewn at the
edge of sleeves
Games and Activities Gather Fallen Leaves
(ages 3-10) Sprinkle the play area with many leaf cut outs. Give each of
your guests a bag or basket and let them collect as many leaves as they can.
Have a prize for whoever has the most leaves. Also, put numbers on the backs of
some of the other leaves that coordinate with other prizes you have in reserve.
Harvest Relay
(ages 3-16) Split your guests into two teams and instruct them they are to
harvest your garden. “Plant” some vegetables loosely in dirt or, if inside,
“plant” the vegetables in a basket of crumpled newspapers. I’d use carrots and
potatoes because they don’t bruise too easily. Have each team send one team
member over to harvest a vegetable, one at a time. At the end of 3 minutes the
team which has harvest the most vegetables wins.
Bobbing for Apples (ages 3-16)
In the traditional version of this game the guests take turns trying to get an
apple from a bucket of water, using only their mouths. A more sanitary version
is to eat a doughnut that’s dangling from a string, using only your mouth.
Apple Carving
(ages 5-16) Give each of your guests an apple and a butter knife and
have them carve the apples. Provide simple awards for the carved apples at this fall party game.
Apple Pass Relay (ages 7-16) Split the guests into two teams and have them stand in a
line. Each team is supposed to pass an apple from one guest to another until
the apple reaches the end of the line. The trick is they can’t use their hands
to touch the apple in this fall party game.
Crafts Make a Leaf Wreath (ages 3-7)
Use die cuts of leaves and glue the leaves around the outer edges of an upside
down paper plate. Punch a hole in the top and hang with string or yarn.
Craft Stick Puzzles
(ages 3-10) Lay several craft sticks side by
side so they form a flat square and tape them together. Then turn over and glue
an fall themed coloring page to the other side. Dry. Allow guests to color the
picture then carefully cut through the picture between each craft stick. Now
they all have their own puzzle. You may want to put the guests names on the
back of each stick, or at least give them a baggie to keep their stick puzzle
in.
Corn Art (ages 3-16)
Provide the guests with sturdy paper and glue. Then set out various dried corn,
bean and legumes like split peas, lentils or even some barley. Have several
colors and sizes ready. Let the guests make their own designs and pictures. Be
sure to write names on the backs of papers before the guests begin their work.
Dried Leaf Art
(ages 5-16) Arrange some not quite dried leaves on homemade paper and
glue in place. Set a book on top so the leaf will stick to the paper. Then
place in a picture frame for a memento of this great fall party. |
