Curling Ribbon
Curtain
Enchant any door frame with a curling ribbon curtain.
|
|
Supplies:
- Curling ribbon in two or three coordinating
colors
- Clear packing tape
- Scissors
Of course, if you want to add balloons to the top you'll need a few of those, as well.
And, here are instructions on making a balloon valance. |
Instructions:
- Cut many pieces of curling ribbon, the length
of the height of the doorway, or a few inches longer.
- About 2/3 of the ribbon should be in
the predominant color. In the picture above the predominant color
of ribbon is green and the other 1/3 of the ribbons were in pink and
light
blue.
- Attach the tops of the curling ribbon to a
stretch of clear packing tape. Put several ribbons next to each other,
but also leave several gaps of an inch or so between ribbons. Then
place another piece of tape over the top so the ribbons are sandwiched
between sticky sides of the tape.
- You'll want to do three pieces of tape to cover
the width of the doorway. A piece of tape the full width of the doorway
is difficult to work with. Smaller pieces are easier.
- Curl some of the ribbon. Not all of it needs to
be curled and the full length of it does not need to be
curled.
- Hang up the ribbons. I used thumbtacks to hold
the tape in the wall.
- Trim the ribbons so they come close to the
floor. You don't want anyone stepping and tripping on any long ribbons.
- Then hang up a swag of some kind to hide the
taped top.
- By the way... Our curtain only lasted ten
minutes before the 15 month old tore it down. So, keep in mind how much
little kids love to play with hanging ribbons. It's more fun than
inflated balloons. My sister suggested using surgical tape to keep the
ribbons secure. It's worth a try if you have little ones.
