Costumes/Dress up Headband with cat ears
Games and Activities Pin the Tail (ages
3-8)
Get a large print out of a cat. Give each guest a copy of a cat tail (or
braided ribbon for a tail) and have them take turns to pin or tape their tail
on the cat while blindfolded. You can spin them before allowing them to try to
match their tail to the cat. You may want to number or put names on the tails so
you can tell who wins.
Yarn Toss (ages
3-10) Have your guests take turns tossing balls of yarn into a
target.
Kitty Litter Scoop
(ages 3-16) Sprinkle the party area with many
unwrapped Tootsie Rolls. Split the guests into two teams and supply each team
with a sand bucket and shovel. Each team sends out one guest at a time to scoop
up as many Tootsie Rolls as they can in ten seconds (have the guests count to
ten aloud). Then hand off to another guest on their team for another ten
seconds. Continue until each guest has had a chance to scoop the poop. The team
with the most Tootsie Rolls wins! If there’s a lot of guests count to five
while they scoop the poop with this cat party game.
Yarn Bowling (ages
3-16) Toss a ball of yarn to knock down empty 2 liter soda bottles
stacked like bowling pins.
Purr and Make Me Smile
(ages 3-16) Have all the guests sit in a circle, except for one guest
who is a cat, and is in the center of the circle. The cat tries to get a guest
to smile by purring. The cat is not allowed to say anything, just purr. The cat
can also meow and do other cat-like actions, such as rubbing against a leg. If
the guest who is receiving the attention from the cat smiles or laughs, that
guest and the cat trade places while the new cat tries to get another guest to
smile. If, however, the guest can say, three times without smiling or laughing,
“I’m sorry, but you can’t make me smile,” then the cat must move on to another
guest.
Cats and Mice
(ages 5-16) In this version of the classic tag game one guest is a cat
and the rest of the guests are mice. The mice line up on one end of the room
and run to the other end while the cat tries to “catch” the mice. Any guest
tagged by a cat, becomes a cat. As the mice run back across the room again and
again, eventually there will be only one mouse left. That mouse wins, and gets
to be the first cat for the next round of this cat party game.
Crafts Cat Puppet (ages
3-12) Turn a brown paper sack into a cat puppet. Provide brown
paper lunch sacks, scissors, markers, colored paper, glue and other
decorations. The folded part of the lunch sack becomes the face and mouth. Glue
on ears, eyes and a nose on the face and put a tongue inside the mouth under
the folded part. Don’t forget whiskers on this fun cat party craft.
Cat Face Mask
(ages 3-10) Give each guest a paper plate. Provide scissors, markers,
colored paper, glue and other decorations. Cut out a part of the paper plate
for eye holes, then decorate the plate to look like a cat face. You may want to
cut out ears for youngest guests to glue to their plates. Pipe cleaners or yarn
make good whiskers. Tie some string or yarn to the sides of the mask to tie
behind the head to hold the mask on.
Yarn Pom Poms
(ages 6-10) Give each guest a fork and some yarn to make their own pom
poms. Cut a four inch piece of yarn and lay it through the middle space between
the tongs of the fork, so it lays down either side of the fork handle. Then
weave a much longer piece of yarn around the tongs of the fork, around and
around until it reaches the top of the fork. Then snip off the yarn. Pull the
first piece of yarn up around the woven yarn and tie it, pulling tight as you
pull the woven yarn off the fork. Pull it tight and tie it tight. Then snip the
folded ends of the yarn and puff it out into a nice pom pom. Cats love playing
with yarn and your guests will love making their own pom poms at your cat
party.
