Baby Party Ideas

Begin your second childhood today with a baby party.

Pinatas
Baby bottle
Toy blocks
Pacifier

Invitations
Put an inked baby footprint on the front of a card and write: Take baby steps to a baby party! Inside include information for the party. If you don’t have a baby’s foot to use you could find a graphic on-line.

You can invite your guests to come in pajamas and blankies, or to bring their favorite stuffed animal.

Cakes
Cut a rectangular cake into squares, either many individual squares instead of cupcakes or larger squares to be layered into a cube. Decorate as building blocks with alphabet letters on the sides.

Decorate a round cake with blue to look like water and white bubbles and clean toy rubber duckies.

Decorations
Do a color scheme of pastel colors. You can use primarily blue or pink, but it doesn’t matter at this baby party.

Put flowers in baby bottles for vases.

Use cloth diapers for napkins. Or, use colored paper napkins rolled up with a pacifier as a napkin ring.

Make a bunting out of diapers.

Costumes/Dress up
Offer bibs, baby bottles, etc.

Games and Activities
Mother May I? (ages 3-10)
Play the classic game of Mother May I? One guest stands as the Mother at the front of a room, facing all the other guests lined up at the other end of the room. The guests take turns asking Mother, “Mother may I take 2 steps?” The Mother then tells the guests how many steps they may take. Sometimes the mother can change the steps to baby steps, sideways steps, or even ballerina steps. The first guest to reach Mother wins and gets to take a turn being Mother. Mother or baby, it's perfect for a baby party.

Picture Books (ages 3-16)
I don’t care how old you are, sharing picture books is a wonderful experience. Pick out your favorite books and read them with the guests. Younger guests will want books with fewer words per page. While reading the books let the guests act it out for more fun.

Show and Tell (ages 3-16)
Invite your guests to show off something special to them. Warn them about this in your party invitation.

Mad Lib Nursery Rhymes (ages 4-8)
Turn some of your favorite nursery rhymes into Mad Lib party games. Click here for some ideas.

Diaper Bowling (ages 4-16)
Use rolled up diapers to knock down empty cans or soda bottles. Make sure they’re clean, unused diapers. Gross!

Pacifier Bobbing (ages 4-16)
Put a bunch of pacifier in a large bowl of water and have the guests take turns trying to get a pacifier out using their mouths, and no hands. Similar to bobbing for apples.

Guess the Mess (ages 5-16)
Melt candy bars in a folded napkin and have everyone guess which candy bar it is. Try Tootsie Rolls and anything with chocolate in it. Put the candy bar and napkin in the microwave for about 30 seconds on high. Number the napkins and write down what they are so you’ll remember after the party

starts.Stack the Blocks (ages 6-16)
Split the guests into teams and give each team some building blocks. Instruct them to build the tallest tower and give them only 30 second or 1 minute to build it. Read, set, go!

How Much Can the Diaper Hold? (ages 6-16)
Split the guests into teams and give each team 1-3 tissues. Have them fold the tissues into a diaper (they can fold it whichever way they want). Then, have the teams hold up either end of their diapers and place beans, pennies or M&Ms in the diapers to see which diaper can hold the most. This will bring some sweet memories for your baby party.

Crafts
Baby Frame
(ages 3-16)
Provide the guests with foam picture frames to be decorated with glitter glue and foam stickers.

Playdoh (ages 3-16)
Use homemade or store bought playdoh and give your guests freedom to make whatever they want. Get out rolling pins, spoons, forks, cookie cutters and have lots of fun.

Finger Paint (ages 3-16)
Provide the guests with oversized shirts to protect their clothes. Then give each guest a large sheet of paper and let them paint. You can use paint, pudding, or even baby food to paint with. Have fun! A baby party wouldn't complete without some kind of big messes.

I Spy Bottles (ages 5-16)
Provide each guest with a clean, empty and clear baby bottle. Fill with rice or plastic pellets from the craft store and other small items to be spied. Put on the lid and mix up. Items may include: marble, uninflated balloon, small party favors, q-tips, safety pin, hair barrette, rubber band, or a paper clip. You get the idea. Look around your home, in an office store or a party store for more ideas. It just has to fit through the lid. As you turn the bottle around different items will pop to the top.

Baby Footprint Art (ages 5-16)
Use fist to make baby footprints with ink pad. You use the side of your fist (the side with the pinkie) and it will make a mark like the bottom of the foot and use a finger to make the prints for the toes. Cute little baby party toes!

Baby Blankets (ages 6-16)
Make baby blankets (from fleece or tying quilts) to donate to your local charity (police department, Women’s Crisis Center, hospital, or homeless shelter). Or keep them for yourselves and use as lap quilts.

Refreshments
Serve drinks in baby bottles—no nipples, just straws.

Applesauce ice cream

Jell-O jigglers cut with cookie cutters

Mix of fish crackers, cereal and raisins

Fold napkins into a baby diaper and fill with small goodies like nuts, chocolate covered raisins, mints, etc.

Take Home Gift Ideas
Diaper bags filled with baby crackers and teething rings and other small toys.
