Games and Activities
Drag Races (ages 3-10)
Provide each of your guests with a small toy car, Hot Wheels or Match Box or another similar car. Then race them. You can make an incline with a board on the edge of a chair or large cardboard mailing tubes.

Hula Hoop Contest (ages 3-16)
Provide each of your guests with a hula hoop. Allow a little practice time for them to learn how to use the hoop. Then play some fun 50s music while they hula. Any guest whose hoop stops spinning must sit down. The last guest to remain standing, and hula-ing, wins.

Bowling (ages 3-16)
Bowling was popular through the 50s, and it’s still a fun game for a 50s party. Set up your own bowling lanes with a soccer ball and clean, empty 2 liter soda bottles for bowling pins.

Sock Hop (ages 3-16)
Play classic music from the 1950s and dance. A few classics from that decade include: Rock Around the Clock, All Shook Up, At the Hop, Chantilly Lace, Peggy Sue, Blueberry Hill, La Bamba, Great Balls of Fire, Johnny B. Goode, Earth Angel and so many more. You could also play music from the musical “Grease.” It wouldn't really be a 50s party without some dancing.

Slinky Races (ages 4-16)
The Slinky was first developed in the early 1940s but still very popular in the 1950s. Hold races to get your slinky to walk down stairs. Whoever can get down the stairs first, wins. Or, whoever can get down the most stairs with a single push, wins.

Bubble Gum Contest (ages 6-16)
Give everyone a piece of gum and allow a minute to chew and get it soft. Then have a contest to see who can blow the biggest bubble from bubble gum. Things could get a little sticky at your 50s party with this game.

Yo-Yo Contest (ages 6-16)
Provide each of your guests with a yo-yo, and a little practice time. Then hold a contest to see who can keep their yo-yo going up and down the longest, or who can do the most tricks with their yo-yo.

Juke Box Surprise (ages 8-16)
It’s time for Guess That Tune! Play portions of classic tunes from the 50s and have your guests guess the name of the song, or the name of the performing artists.

Crafts
Macaroni Art (ages 3-8)
Frugality ruled the day in most households in the 50s. Cheap and common items were used in creative ways like in Macaroni Art. Give each of your guests a sheet of construction paper and let them glue different shapes of noodles to the paper to make a picture.

Pink Poodle (ages 3-8)
Print out a poodle coloring page and let your guests color and glue pink cotton balls to the picture.

Pinwheels (ages 3-12)
Use this file to create your pinwheels. Cut on the dotted lines. Decorate both sides of the square. Gently fold the outer corner of each triangle toward the center of the square and use a push pin to push through the four corners and the center of the pinwheel to attach the pinwheel to the side of a pencil eraser. Yet another simple 50s party craft.

Juice Lid Magnet Doll (ages 5-10)
The 50s were still an age of reuse and recycle items. Continue that practice with this 50s party game craft. Save your lids from frozen juice concentrate. Clean them. Then let your guests turn them into doll faces with googly eyes, pipe cleaners and yarn to be twisted and shaped into hair, eyes, lips, etc. Glue a magnet on the back of the lid.

Rockin’ Clock (ages 7-16)
Turn an old record into a clock. Provide each guest with the supplies to make their own clock or watch, using a vinyl record as the back for the clock. You can pick up the other supplies from most craft stores.

Refreshments
Open a soda shop. Serve various sodas with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in them. You can find fun soda glasses at a department store or your party store.

Drive in food – hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, etc. Serve it while wearing roller skates…if you can find some.

Take Home Gift Ideas
Bubble gum

Baseball cards

Yo-yos

Lip gloss and pink finger nail polish

Soda shop mugs/cups filled with bubble gum or jelly beans (soda flavored)
